"I recently married my girlfriend, she's a Canadian, she came to the US on a visit and we decided to get married on a whim. I was curious how to proceed from here in getting my wife legalized in the US so she can stay here with me."

Answer

Thanks for the question. The first thing I would do is what you have done with this question and that is seek legal counsel. It is imperative that you do not file anything with U.S.C.I.S. (United States Custom and Immigration Services) without the assistance of an attorney.

Based on the limited information you provided, you would need to develop evidence that you have a bona fide or legitimate relationship. An experienced attorney can help you prepare that evidence or offer tips to develop the evidence that will be needed to have a successful petition.

After the evidence is developed you will file several petitions with U.S.C.I.S. Again, I don't recommend filing these petitions without legal counsel. Assuming you have the appropriate evidence and documentation, the process typically takes about 4-8 months from beginning to end.

If you are interested in a consultation please call the office to allow us to evaluate your case and see if we can assist you with this process.

Congratulations on the marriage.
