On Wednesday afternoon, police were called to the woods of South Peninsula Avenue in Daytona Beach regarding a suspicious person. Upon arrival, authorities discovered all the parts for a working meth lab. The suspect was found and arrested, but the investigation regarding the meth lab is ongoing.
Drug-related crimes in Daytona Beach are not uncommon. According to Florida Health, in 2017, the county of Volusia ranked 15th in the state for drug-poisoning deaths. Additionally, the death toll related to methamphetamines was higher in Volusia County than the Florida state average.

The arrest on Wednesday was not the first instance of a meth-related crime in Daytona Beach.
In July of 2017, three individual meth labs were discovered on the same property by local authorities. Six suspects were arrested and charged with various crimes. These crimes include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, manufacturing and selling of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In February of 2017, a similar incident occurred, which involved two men in a mobile home located near the Halifax River. The suspects appeared to be operating the meth lab out of the recreational vehicle, and were reported to police via an anonymous tip. They were arrested and charged with possession and manufacturing of meth, possession of listed chemicals, and possession of paraphernalia.
